Assessment of Research

Assessing the quality of research is a continuing process at the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture. The aim of the assessments is to identify the key focus areas of research and to determine the level and influence of research work and artistic activities.

In 2008, the Academy of Finland commissioned the first international evaluation of research in art and design in Finnish universities. The report states that the school “makes significant contribution to the social, economic, and cultural life of Finland”.

The international research assessment exercise of Aalto University (RAE) was carried out in 2009, on the brink of the launch of the new Aalto University. The purpose of this evaluation was to determine the level and influence of research as well as to identify the research potential at the international level. The assessment of research at Aalto University is intended to be conducted every six years.
