Apply for doctoral studies

You can complete doctoral studies in the fields of art, design, media and architecture at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture.

The studies for a doctoral degree comprise 60 credits and a dissertation. As a full-time student, it takes about four years to complete the degree.

A unique characteristic of the doctor of arts degree is that the dissertation work may include an art production or a series of art productions closely related to one another or a product development project. The school's Departments of Film, Television and Scenography, Media, Design, and Art offer studies leading to a doctor of arts degree in their own fields of research.

A doctor of science degree can be completed at the school's Department of Architecture, which is the oldest and largest educational institute in the field of architecture.

Application period for Doctor of Arts and Doctor of Science (architecture) programme is 1 March – 31 March each year.
