Professor Lev Kreft, University of Ljubljana, will act as the Opponent.

PhD Ossi Naukkarinen, Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture, Department of Art, will act as the Custos.

Art and sport are inseparable parts of contemporary culture. There is no way to escape their presence; even if one is not interested in them they are present. Yet, they are frequently seen unconnected or even as the opposed elements of the culture.

This research maps the relationships between art and sport through various perspectives using a multidisciplinary approach. In addition, three artistic projects have been included in the research. The research produces a reasoned proposition why art and sport should be seen similar practices in contemporary culture and why this perspective is beneficial.

The study makes an inquiry of art and sport as practices, systems and habits of action in order to analyze their connections. The study uses a humanistic approach employing various disciplines as well as artistic methods for probing the subject. The research shows how art and sport are connected through their historical development and social structure. In addition, aesthetic links between them are introduced. Eventually, the consequences of their contemporary affinity are discussed.
