Millennium Technology Prize winner announced 22 May

Welcome to the prize winner's Millennium Talks open lecture on 23 May.

The world’s largest technology prize will be awarded in May for the eight time. The international, one-million-euro prize is awarded to a technological innovation that has had an extensive positive impact on people’s quality of life. The Millennium Technology Price is awarded by the Technology Academy Finland.

The Millennium Technology Prize will be announced in Helsinki at the Cable Factory on Tuesday, 22 May 2018. The award will be presented by the President of the Republic of Finland, Mr Sauli Niinistö.

The Millennium Technology Prize is awarded every second year. Academy Professor Päivi Törmä from Aalto University, Chair of the Millennium Technology Prize Selection Committee, stresses the importance of the international award for Finland.

'Finland is a human-oriented country of high technology. The technology prize aiming for global well-being reflects our values and strengths in a great way. The international prize highlights the idea that great global challenges must be resolved globally, together.'

Millennium Talks - winner’s public lecture 23 May

Aalto University participates in the events organised in connection with the Millennium Technology Prize as TAF’s strategic partner.  Events at Aalto are part of Aalto Festival, which showcases the many talents of Aalto University in numerous events in May.

The winner of the 2018 Millennium Technology Prize will give a Millennium Talks public lecture on Wednesday 23 May at 9 a.m. in the Aalto Hall at the Aalto University Otaniemi campus (Undergraduate Centre, Otakaari 1, Espoo). The winner will discuss the winning innovation and its significance for humanity in English.

Millennium Youth Prize

Following the lecture, the winner will participate in technology workshops organised for upper secondary school students. The programme also includes the launch of the Millennium Youth Prize, a new technology competition organised jointly by Aalto University and Technology Academy Finland. The Millennium Youth Prize invites young people to present solutions to current global challenges by drawing on health technologies and new sustainable development energy solutions. The themes of the youth prize are chosen based on previous winning innovations of the Millennium Technology Prize.

The Millennium Youth Prize will be launched on Wednesday 23 May at 10.45 am at lecture hall A235, Undergraduate Centre, Otakaari 1, Espoo. Please, register (space is limited):
