Aalto’s High-level Expertise Active in Haiti's Reconstruction
21.11.2014 The World Cultural Council (WCC) gave Research Manager Matti Kuittinen a Special Recognition Award for his pioneering work on decreasing the carbon footprint of construction and for his leadership of humanitarian projects. Besides the academic world, Kuittinen is also familiar with the chaotic conditions of the world’s crisis hotspots.

10.09.2014 Laura Tuorila's Pilvi ('Cloud'), made out of plastic bags, and fellow Aalto University students Johanna Brummer and Heini-Emilia Saari's Viivy ('Linger'), with its playful use of light and shade, all received honourable mentions in this year's design competition at the Habitare Furniture and Interior Decoration Design Fair.

Satu Maaranen wins first prize at Hyères Fashion Festival competition
29.04.2013 Master of Arts Satu Maaranen, who graduated from the Department of Design of the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture, in Finland, has won the Grand Prix at the Hyères Fashion Festival with her collection for women. The prize is worth EUR 15 000. The inspiration for Maaranen's Garment in Landscape collection was landscape and its artistic interpretation. In addition, the prize includes EUR 3 000 from the Ra concept store and a collection to be produced in cooperation with Petit Bateau. The top fashion houses are interested in Maaranen and her collection.
Jussi Lehtomäki wins best student price with film Out into the woods at Tampere Film Festival
11.03.2013 Jussi Lehtomäki won the best student price with his documentary film Aamulla viemme lapset metsään (Out into the Woods) (ELO, 2012) at the Tampere Film Festival which was held on 6 - 10 March 2013 in Tampere, Finland. Out into the Woods takes the audience into the middle of a storytelling moment, and sends the viewer on a journey into the dark woods.
